The Harrison Festival of the Arts Presents: Alpha Yaya Diallo & Bafing

Guinea-born Alpha Yaya Diallo is a uniquely multi-talented artist. His dexterous acoustic and electric guitar-playing, with its fluid melodic lines and compelling grooves, places him in the front ranks of African axemen. In addition, he is a skilled and experienced performer on a variety of percussion instruments, as well as on the balafon (traditional wooden xylophone). He sings and plays his own compositions, accompanied by his talented international band of players, Bafing.
Diallo’s history with Harrison is deep. He first appeared here was with Fatala, a group of West African musicians recording for Peter Gabriel’s Real World label, back in 1991. It was on that tour that he decided to settle in Vancouver, soon becoming one Canada’s most beloved and revered African musicians. We are delighted to have him back.
